Hotel Baronia (Banyalbufar)
I am decidedly undecided about this hotel/ hostel which ranks with 2 stars international and 3 stars local at the lower medium level of accommodation. It is a 15th-century mansion with a small tower, swimming-pool, terrace and about 40 rooms. The Baronia is family-business and indeed the atmosphere is very familiar, many of the guests are returning customers and the service is friendly. The house is clean and even though the interieur is not new it is overall pretty good cared for. Some of the things you find here look antique, others simply old-fashioned but this is also part of the things I personally liked.
The Hotel Baronia is located right at the main street. Leaving the entrance door you find yourself literally on the road again. Now, this would usually do no harm in a small village such as Banyalbufar were it not for the motorbikes and the tourists generally that turn the coastal road into a seasonal pretty highly frequented source of noise and traffic. At night this is no problem at all, since the traffic ceases pretty early.
Unfortunately the Hotel Baronia suffers severely from poor construction quality. The walls are so thin that we sometimes thought strangers were using our toilet or were sleeping in the same room with us. We had actually read about this before we booked the house, so we thought us prepared: but the 'real thing' turned out much worse than anticipated. There were nights we were unable to sleep because of the snoring guests from the room next to us.
Rooms are simple, no safe, no fridge, no commodities. But they have a truly nice view. Meals are brought to your table. For breakfast there is one kind of cheese, two kinds of saussage to choose from, one kind of marmalade, an egg, a glass of orange-juice, coffee or tea. If you don't eat the sausage, breakfast gets boring pretty fast.
For dinner you can choose from two kinds of starters, then fish or meat for the main course and for desert a fruit or something else. Lunch was good
