Yes this is actually the statue of the great great Leonidas who in 480 b.c. fought against 1.000.000 (!!) Persians with only 300 of his soldiers. The statue is 18 kilometers from Lamia away, on the highway from Thessaloniki to Athens. You have to stand there infront of him to unterstand the unique feeling... Where ever you stand, you think, he can watch you!

@paokis I think that Leonidas was a brave man and he fought against many Persians. BUT 1 million is ridiculous. I know Herodot tells us that it has been 1 million, but he likes to distend. And on the other hand Leonidas had his 300 Spartians and beside this he was supported by 700 Thespiens.
But nevertheless: great man, good shot
