Other names are Bladdercherry, Chinese Lantern plant, Japanese-lantern, or Winter cherry and it is often called 'Lampion' or 'Lampionblume' in Germany.

This strange plant is bright red-orange in the summer and looks dead like this in wintertime with a skeleton of plant fibre.

It is rumoured that you can actually eat the small red cherry in it's centre but I think I also heard it is poisenous...

It's probably not an original german plant but it obviously adapted well and can be found in many gardens.
